The UK’s Trade Agreements & CPTPP

As an independent trading nation, the UK now has 39 trade agreements in place with 73 partners. These agreements are in force for 72 partners.

The most recent agreement is CPTPP – The UK-Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership

Joining the CPTPP will strengthen the UK’s ties with some of the world’s most dynamic economies, with a combined GDP of £12 trillion including the UK. Accession puts the UK at the heart of a dynamic group of countries, including Vietnam which is predicted to be one of the fastest growing economies in the next decades.

Over 99% of our current goods exports to CPTPP member countries will be eligible for zero tariffs, improving goods market access for British firms.

CPTPP was created to expand and as it grows the UK will stand to benefit from access to new markets.

The benefits of CPTPP include:

  • strengthening ties with some of the world’s most dynamic economies
  • opening new markets for services providers
  • modern and ambitious digital and data provisions
  • cutting tariffs on goods exports
  • new opportunities to diversify supply chains
  • providing the whole of the UK with new export opportunities
  • a trade deal with Malaysia and Brunei for the first time
  • more access to high-quality imported goods
  • strengthening economic security
  • encouraging investment

Under the CPTPP UK traders will be able to trade with the following countries:

  • Japan
  • Singapore
  • Chile
  • New Zealand
  • Vietnam
  • Peru
  • Malaysia
