Updates on recent International Trade Discussions
The UK and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP)
The UK will accede to CPTPP on 15 December 2024. From this date, UK traders will be able to trade with the following Parties under CPTPP:
► Japan ► Singapore ► Chile ► New Zealand ► Vietnam ► Peru ► Malaysia ► Brunei
This is because those Parties have ratified the UK’s accession to CPTPP.
From 24 December 2024, UK traders will be able to trade with Australia under CPTPP.

Update following round 5 of negotiations on an enhanced Free Trade Agreement with Switzerland
The fifth round of negotiations on an enhanced Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Switzerland took place in London between 14 and 18 October 2024.
The talks were the UK’s first with the Swiss since the Secretary of State for Business and Trade announced the government’s intention to deliver the UK’s FTA negotiations programme in July.

New UK-EU Competition Cooperation Agreement
UK Government and the European Union have formally concluded technical negotiations on the UK-EU Competition Cooperation Agreement.
This agreement is aimed at improving cooperation between the UK’s and EU’s competition authorities, allowing for greater dialogue between the Competition and Markets Authority in the UK, the European Commission and the National Competition Authorities of the EU Member States.

Prime Minister announces relaunch of UK-India free trade talks
The Prime Minister has announced that UK-India trade talks will relaunch in the new year, following a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G20 summit. The UK will seek a new strategic partnership with India, including a trade agreement, as well as deepening co-operation in areas like security, education, technology, and climate change.
