Export Guidance for Trade Agreements

As you will be aware, the UK signed a last minute Trade agreement with EU at the end of December. We are working hard to get the help and guidance needed to you to ensure that you understand what you need to do to export to the EU now.
The Chamber network are liaising with HMRC to clarify the new processes and we will notify you of any updates as soon as these are received.
Exports to EU Guidance –
- Review the guidance on Claiming Preferential Rates & Duties
- Use the Online Trade Tariff to review product specific rules
- You need to be aware that you can only claim preference where the goods qualify using the Rules of Origin that apply to your goods. Refer to The Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA): detailed guidance on the rules of origin
- Take note of the invoice declaration specified in the TCA above
- UK Certificates of Origin are not officially needed but we advise you check with your customer as to whether they require one
Invoice Declarations
The UK and the EU have agreed that supplier declarations on origin don’t need to be in place for the first twelve months. Supplier declarations will need to be available if requested for goods imported during that twelve month period, but a request would only be made after the twelve months.
- Preferential tariff claims can be made up to three years after import.
- A C285 form will be required for a repayment request in the UK.
- In the UK, only a UK EORI number is needed from HMRC.
- No HMRC authorisation of any origin documentation is required for this FTA.
There are several interim product specific rules for electric accumulators and electrified vehicles annexed to the Agreement.
Exports to Turkey –
- View the guidance on the provisional trade agreement in place
- ATR and EUR1's can no longer be issued for Turkey
- Self certification via invoice declaration is now required.
- You need to be aware that you can only claim preference where the goods qualify using the Rules of Origin that apply to your goods
- UK Certificates of Origin are not officially needed but we advise you check with your customer as to whether they require one
Exporting to non-EU countries with Trade Agreements -
- A list of countries the UK hold Trade Agreements with can be found here
- You need to be aware that you can only claim preference where the goods qualify using the Rules of Origin that apply to your goods specific to the Trade Agreement in place with that country
- If your goods qualify an UK EUR1 can be raised to claim preference
- Please note - where an agreement refers to a certificate of origin being needed to claim they are refering to UK-EUR1.
- We advise you check with your customer as to whether an UK EUR1 or an UK Certificate of Origin is required by them or both.
